Cancer hospital to procure equipment

The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajashekara Reddy, has granted permission to Mehdi Nawaz Jung Institute of Oncology and Regional Cancer Centre to procure sophisticated equipment costing about Rs. 10 crores.

The Chief Minister gave the approval while chairing the Governing Council meeting of the centre held in his chambers of Sunday.

The regional cancer centre had been permitted to procure equipment including a linear accelerator, 64 slice CT scan and second high dose rate Brachy therapy unit.

Rasoi ghar concept


Dr. Reddy noted that `rasoi ghar,' community kitchen concept introduced in the hospital by the Hindustan Petroleum Limited, was of immense help to attendants of the patients to cook food.

He said the digital library set up in the hospital would be beneficial to staff to document improvements in patient care and also to update their knowledge.

Blood bank


He hoped that the blood bank on the hospital premises would be of great help to patients.

The Chief Minister was told that 500 patients availed themselves of out- patient services everyday, of which a majority were from poor and underpriveleged families.

The cancer centre Director, B.N. Rao, the Principal Secretary, Health, I.V. Subba Rao, and the Principal Secretary, Finance, I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, attended.
