MCH demolishes encroachments

The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) launched a drive to demolish encroached portions of commercial complexes in the city on Sunday. The MCH has identified hundreds of commercial complexes which are violating the building norms, especially the cellar regulations.

The first target was Babukhan Mall, near Rajiv Gandhi statue, Punjagutta. A huge police force was deployed to thwart any resistance from the management of malls to the demolition drive taken up on Raj Bhavan Road and Punjagutta crossroads.

The total width of the road from Begumpet to Punjagutta should be 150 feet. The present width of the road is 120 feet only. Hence, the MCH decided to widen the road by 10 feet on either side by removing encroachments, he said.

The management of Babukhan Mall tried to resist the demolition by stating that it would remove the flooring extended onto the road on its own.

The management of Amruta Mall also tried to prevent the demolition by stating that it would remove the ‘encroachments’ on its own. Due to the demolition, a portion of Chic Hair and Beauty Parlour located in the cellar of Amruta Mall caved in.
