"We don't want such development and we will not allow the project to be executed," the Majlis MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, has warned.
Charge against official
Participating in the District Review Committee (DRC) meeting here on Saturday, he said the plan of E. Sreedharan, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, was a conspiracy against the old city.
If implemented the project would finish off M.J. Market, Siddiamber Bazar, Begum Bazar, Chaderghat, Patherghatti and Yakutpura. At each turning, Metro Rail would cut into 200 properties.
Mr. Asaduddin wondered about the mention of a resolution on the Metro Rail project in the action taken report and said the MIM was not party to any such resolution. The Hyderabad Collector, Arvind Kumar, said the resolution forwarded to the Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, was merely about the discussion in the DRC on the project.
The Government had constituted a seven-member committee to examine the project in its entirety.
Not much 'demolition'
The MCH Commissioner, Sanjay Jaju, said the 58-km mass rail transit system would entail minimum demolition. Stakeholders would be taken into confidence before anything was done. The Khairatabad MLA, P. Janardhan Reddy, wanted a meeting of city MLAs to be arranged with Mr. Sreedharan to clarify doubts and allay apprehensions.
The Information Minister and DRC chairman, Mohd. Ali Shabbir, chaired the meeting. The Technical Education Minister, N. Narisimha Reddy, was present.
