Waste disposal scheme

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Koneru Ranga Rao on Monday launched a campaign for segregation of solid waste at source. The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, in coordination with Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs), is implementing the door-to-door garbage collection scheme. Under the pilot project, 43,169 houses will be covered in all the seven circles of MCH.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister underlined the role of citizens in keeping the city clean and green. Later, he distributed plastic bins to households for dropping the organic and recyclable waste. The residents will segregate the waste into organic waste (wet waste) and recyclable waste (dry waste). The organic waste will be collected everyday. The recyclable waste will be collected on Saturdays. The MCH will deploy tricycles for transportation of the segregated waste. A nominal fee of Rs 20 per month will be collected from the households by the RWAs.

The associations will pay wages to the workers from the fee collected from the residents. A tricycle will be provided to every RWA. It covers 150 to 180 houses.
