DRDO develops drug for cancer

In a major breakthrough, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed a drug for cancer, useful for the soldiers guarding the borders of the country as also for the general public. A city-based pharma major is currently involved in clinical trials.

In order to create awareness on their research and the products available to general public, the department is contemplating to open an exhibition centre at the DRDO-Apollo Hospitals here in March 2006.

Products developed under Society for Biomedical Technology (SBMT) programmes like Kalam-Raju coronary stent, external cardiac pacemaker, floor reaction orthosis, hip prosthesis, Drishti eye laser and slit lamp microscope would also be displayed at the exhibition. AP Chapter of SBMT, which is an independent body but functions under the guidance of DRDO to spread research and technology, would also be set up in the city.
