IICT bags award

The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) here has been selected for the 'Best Patent Award' for the year 2004-05 by the Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA). The IDMA had selected IICT for the prestigious award based on the US patent granted for anti-cancer agents. The patent, granted in October last year, describes novel approach to linking a known DNA-intercalator like pyrene to PBD ring system through varying length of alkane spacers.

These hybrids have been evaluated for their DNA-binding ability apart from their anti-cancer activity. One of the compounds (three carbon chain linker) from this series had shown promising in vitro anti-cancer activity in a panel of 60 human cancer cell lines, a press release here today said.
