Releasing the new Nasscom-McKinsey report on Monday, they said that IT and BPO sectors would earn $60 billion in exports by March 2010 — about 7% of GDP, up from 3% at present. But, they said businesses in big cities, which are already choked because of power shortages, poor public transport and limited international connectivity, will not be able to accommodate additional 16 lakh people (up from seven lakh at present) to fire the growth.
About a million jobs in these sectors are projected to be generated near Tier-I cities (Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai) and about six lakh in other towns across the country.
