Nasscom seeks defence personnel

It is a transition process--officers becoming men and the Rs 1,50,000 crore IT/ITES industry is all set to welcome the well-disciplined men from our defence forces as a remedy for lack of talent availability. However, the transition process is not an easy task for an officer who has spent long years in the defence services. By 2008, IT/ITES will be a $8 billion industry. However, it is also likely to see a shortage of 50,000 people. This gap can be filled by retired defence personnel as they have the skillset required for the industry. Sunil Mehta, vice-president Nasscom said though the country produces 3.5 lakh engineers and 28 lakh graduates every year, all of them are not employable. "Cheap broadband availability and business process outsourcing have thrown open enormous business opportunities," he said. According to him defence personnel can utilise this opportunity to build a career in this field.
