MOIA secretary Krishna Kumar and AAPI president Vijay Kohli formally signed the MoU in the presence of the Minister of State for Overseas Indian Affairs Oscar Fernandes and State Health Minister K. Rosaiah on the first day of the fourth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas being held here on Saturday.
Under the agreement, the Centre would facilitate the establishment of knowledge, institution and stakeholder partners to promote and implement primary health care pilot projects. It would also establish a working group in consultation with the AAPI to identify stakeholder States that would partner the pilot projects.
The MoU, which came into effect from Saturday, would hold good till January 6, 2009. Dr. Kohli said the AAPI would establish a group to enable the collection and analysis of empirical data on the status of health and health care delivery in the project areas to jump start the pilot projects. Together, the MOIA and the AAPI would consult the project States and establish direct contacts between overseas Indian health professionals, associations and organisations to facilitate cooperative ventures and promote practical exchanges in research and development in primary health care.
