In a bid to become the country's largest movie theatre chain, Fun Multiplex, part of the $5 billion Essel Group of Industries, plans to open 50 family entertainment centres across Andhra Pradesh with an investment of over Rs.2.5 billion in the next three years.
Fun Multiplex is one of the leading players in multiplex business with 40 screens at 12 locations across India. The company is targeting about 175 screens at forty locations by 2008.
"Fun Multiplex will set up entertainment centres, transforming the entertainment landscape of Andhra Pradesh," said a company statement here Sunday. Each project will have a multi-screen theatre, shopping complex, food court and gaming zones. "The target is to introduce world-class multiplexes in the state, adding more than 200 theatre screens in small and big cities," it added.The Essel Group is already undertaking similar projects in Gujarat and Rajasthan, with a total investment of about Rs.10 billion. The company has called for Expression of Interest (EOI) for these projects for buying or leasing of land, joint development and tie-up with local developers to facilitate construction process.
"With a vibrant multi-lingual audience, Andhra Pradesh is an attractive market for multiplexes. We intend to make a long-term business investment commitment in the state," said Fun Multiplex CEO Atul Goel.
