Many Government schools in the city are in for some sophisticated equipment. K-Yan, the multimedia computer, which has brought cheer to 20 schools in the old city, is set to enchant many more shortly.

The interactive machine includes a TV, DVD, CD, LCD projector and Internet surfing all rolled into one. Buoyed by its encouraging results, Mr. Owaisi has decided to extend the K-Yan facility to more schools in his constituency to usher in the computer culture. Mr. Owaisi, who completes three years on May 13, has not done badly for a first time Parliamentarian.Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has sanctioned Rs. 35 lakhs from his MPLAD fund for improving the performance of Government schools through this high performance machine. Of his Rs. 6 crores MPLAD funds, he has spent Rs. 5.53 crores on 173 developmental works.
The money is mostly spent on laying of cement concrete roads, drilling of borewells, provision of water supply, sewer lines and construction of community halls, school and college buildings. "Depending on the local needs I have released funds," he says.
Mr. Owaisi plans to turn his constituency into a model one. He particularly wants to leverage the old city, which forms a major chunk of the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat. However, his long-term goal remains evolving solutions to lift the Muslim community from the morass of socio-economic backwardness.
Is he happy with his performance? "I need to do more," is all that he would say. The 38-year-old MP, who holds a law degree, has a difficult task. "People often judge me against my father and it is a tough thing. I have stepped into his shoes but to rise to his stature is difficult," admits the young Owaisi, who took over from Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, a six term MP.
He was also instrumental in procuring of JNURM funds of Rs. 10 crores for improvement of nalas, road-widening and laying of new drains. He denies as baseless, the criticism that he is concentrating mostly on development of the four urban constituencies in the old city. "I don''t have a parochial attitude. As an MP I treat all my constituents equally," he says.
