Whatever Hyderabad has witnessed in the last two years was just out of speculation of good things to come as and when the big infrastructure projects were announced. But what would happen once all these great projects are complete and Hyderabad becomes "Greater" is a story only time would tell.
Infrastructure initiatives such as Mass Rapid Transit System and Elevated Expressway along with a series of flyovers ended up pushing Hyderabad further into limelight.
By the time the next Ugadi comes we will be flying out of our state of the art Rs 2,478 crore Airport. The last year saw the real estate boom, fuelled by information technology and sustained by development of infrastructure, make rapid strides to achieve a growth rate that was unimaginable so far. This year things look more than optimistic. The rise in demand for residential and commercial space made realtors scurrying all over to identify available land while officials got busy sifting through loads of maps to locate spaces. Thus, hitherto not so famous places like Tukkuguda, Bachupally and Kandukur started making rapid beeps on the realty radar.
The list of projects to shape the city's future is growing. From the International Airport at Shamshabad, Fab City in Maheshwaram Mandal, BITS campus at Jawaharnagar to IT spaces at Raidurg, Pocharam and Manikonda and even the NIMS University, the directory is already quite long. Many world leaders in the IT field either have a campus here or are on the verge of having one.
Infrastructure initiatives such as Mass Rapid Transit System and Elevated Expressway along with a series of flyovers ended up pushing Hyderabad further into limelight. A major urban project that will have tremendous multiplier effect on the city taken up by HUDA is the 162 km, 8-laned Outer Ring Road. HUDA is committed to deliver this road costing Rs.3,500 crores before the end of 2008. HUDA is also facilitating development of Radial roads project, under which 33 Radial roads have been identified to connect ORR with the core city locations.
All along the ORR, HUDA has also assessed a great potential for creation of living and work spaces. HUDA is going to capture this potential in the form of its flagship Integrated Townships Project. An internal survey has revealed the demand for about 20 townships altogether, of which HUDA is rolling out three to begin with, and the rest in a phased manner. To ensure that the common man is not swept aside in the spiralling price rise of properties, all the townships will have provision for LIG and MIG housing which will be offered at fixed costs to the people. HUDA will also contribute in the improvement of traffic infrastructure. These include three flyovers being planned at Langar Houz, Dilsukh Nagar and Uppal. Also in the offing is an Elevated Expressway which connects the city to the upcoming International Airport. This is touted as the longest flyover in the country, spanning 11.4 km.
Another challenging project is the decongestion of Secunderabad Railway station area. The vacant land available with the old Gandhi Hospital presents an opportunity to develop an Integrated bus terminus with parking and commercial facilities.
Cyberabad Times promises to cover every major development of the city in the next new year and wishes all its users A Happy Ugadi.
