A Greater Hyderabad State
After the insistence on division of Andhra Pradesh into three separate States, a new but unusual demand is being voiced for creation of a Greater Hyderabad State.
As if to prove a point that they were not lagging behind their peers in other regions demanding separation, leaders from Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts say they deserve a new State which would be much larger in terms of population, area, economy and demographics, compared to many smaller States in the country.
One crore people
They feel the echo of the ‘Greater’ demand would be heard in the Congress headquarters in Delhi, as the ‘proposed state’ would comprise one crore people with diverse cultures and 29 Assembly and four Lok Sabha constituencies and yet be cosmopolitan in nature. People hailing from all districts in the State and almost every corner of the country made the city their abode decades ago, they contend.
The stage was set for the launch of ‘Greater Hyderabad Rashtra Sadhana Samiti’ but the stern advice of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to leaders against issuing statements on Telangana put paid to their ambitions. Congress leaders, including office-bearers of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committeeeven planned to hold a meeting in the city on January 24.In the event that the Central Government decides to divide Andhra Pradesh, it should also respect the sentiments of people of the Twin Cities and Ranga Reddy, they maintained.

This would be the perfect solution for the problem. Let there 2 or 3 states the capital will be hyderabad. It will be made as union territory.
Peace,
Rama Krishna
Yes.This should happen. Many people will support it.
THIS SHOULD HAPPEN.THIS WOULD BE A FITTING REPLY TO SELFISH POLITICIANS WHO ARE NOT ACCOUNTABLE.
First of all, am I missing somthing???? I don’t think we want to separate a state with many developed areas. With one combined state, then we will prevail with the industries. Its like you’re saying that we want separate states because we don’t like what the government is doing, they didn;t fulfill their promises, so we want to separate. That is BS!! Now other people are like, “OK We want a separate state too!!!” It is jus trying to contribute to the problem. You all know how the Indian Government will not change, even when they’re separate states. There is always someone or the other trying to change government to support their cause. So I say, let us stay united as we have many cities in the Andhra Pradesh that are itself showing their greatness. Once separated, we wont feel that unity. Tell me what you think.
@Pradyumna I can’t agree more with what you said my friend, Nothing will change even after we make every district a new state. In a globalised world the boundaries between countries don’t matter any more. And we want to draw new boundaries with in a state which makes no sense what so ever.
Its almost laughable proposition and this is nothing new. If Telangana is de-merged from Andhra, which seems very likely, would Telangana people will sit quiet with something like this?? i seriously doubt. And what is the reasoning or logic behind such proposition? just Becasue lot of Andhra leaders have assets, business and properties and fortunes attached to Hyderabad they want a separate governing entity. Now how appropriate would it be if millions of poor people were crying for separate Telangana for 50 years it had to be debated, postponed, sabotaged against and now few Billionaires want a separate territory we just give it them. I think its time for the so called intellects to pause and ponder. two wrongs don’t make it right.
Ya, Lets make every cosmopolitan city into a union territory. I am sure there will make lot of people happy
It is foolish to devide beautiful Andhra Pradesh, which has come a long way despite many odds. Hyderabad is womderful heart of AP. If state to be devided foolishly for gains of some, then idead of Greater Hyderabad State is fantastic. It will place Hyderabad at a new position and bring challenges as well as oppertunities. It will help in preserving its admired cosmopolitian culture and ethics.
First of all there should be any division of Andhra Pradesh which was formed on linguistic basis. The development as a whole of AP is really good. Separate state demands are just politically motivated as we can see people associated with this demand had never raised this when they have ministerial positions. They are not really concerned about the development of any region in particular.
If at all the separation is forced on the state then Greater Hyderabad should be a formed as state itself. This will remain as the hub for all parts of the region. No way Greater Hyderabad should become part of any separate state.
There should be no division of the state.
These politicians are unscrupulous and want a separate state to safeguard their political life. Shame on them.
All telugu people from Telangana; Coastal and Rayalseema should demand development in every corner and defeat the separatist political desings.
Where were these separatist leaders few years back? They never raised this that time becos they were enjoyng ministerial positions.
In the worst case, If at all separation imposed on the state, Greater Hyderabad should become a state of its own and should remain the hub for all parts.
So far people from all parts of AP contributed to the growth of Hyderabad through taxes.
good discussions about greater hyderabad..being from telangana myself ..I am at crossroads on what I want ..there is no doubt about systemic and planned ignorance of successive governments on Telangana region ..take any metric like irrigation, jobs, literacy, poverty you will see telanganites lagging way behind ..As KCR says its almost a joke when every govt claims that they have developed telangana which is implicit acknowledgment of planned discrimination ..they are NOT doing any “meherbaani” in developing telangana ..we are paying taxes despite poverty ..acknowledging and accepting every community despite segregration attempts ..that’s telangana’s greatness..we listen to the leaders who try to articulate our problems in different angles and we are puzzled by solutions being put forward ..turning our divine state into a three headed monster .. each spitting fire in different directions .. it has become an electoral exercise with every party volunteering to cut the cake into pieces ..wondering what to to do with icing …”hyderabad”. Many say hyderabad is developed because of contributions of andhra people ..common man on streets is partnering in businesses ,renting his portion and sending his children to colleges run by andhrites .there is lot of give and take from both communities and I personally feel myself an integral part of AP and pure telugu to the core ..despite differences in accents, mannerisms ..on the other hand how should we suppress our anger towards prior govts..look at what they did in Nagarjuna Sagar water allotments ..or ratio of telangana and andhra employees in the secretariat ..imagine if the capital to be Vijayawada in 1955..do we see massive migrations from telangana to secure posts in vijayawada secretariat ..we might have attempted to walk towards vijaywada and would have given up our job efforts and settled down in Nalgonda itself ..coming back to the hot topic ..I am nervous what the final decision will be as part of electoral battle fields where in there is no regard to core issue but to sweeten the telangana deal by promising everything to get electoral attention ..do you think we can comprehend all different telangana proposals by parties..making hyderabad metropolitan state ..making 3 capitals for other regions ..as Prakash Raj says ..”mind-boggling yaar”..I personally think people should look at proposals which will not hinder hyderabad growth ..we should punish parties who have promised telangana development and conveniently ignored and doing a “rhetoric” catchup in the end ..we should vote for people who are passionate about telangana ..whether it is TRS, TeluguDesam or even Congress. it is hard to judge though as every party got a chance before and didn’t deliver the goods ..let’s closely listen to electoral pitches again and decide which party offers clear development roadmap for telangana ..Venkat Aekka
There should be NO division of Andhra Pradesh, development as a whole of AP is really good. Separate state demands are just politically motivated as we can see people associated with this demand had never raised this when they get ministerial positions. They are not really concerned about the development of any region. Those politicians only think about their self gains and interests. See even countries are prospering and looking forward by merging and forming blocks/Unions e.g., European union. We should also continue to strengthen our United Andhra Pradesh to make it an example in the whole nation.
