Expressway to finish in September

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, on Wednesday asked officials to complete the pending work to provide road connectivity to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad scheduled to be opened on March 16. He told officials to bring any problem including political issues to his notice at a high-level meeting on Wednesday.

Officials assured that road connectivity will be completed before the airport opening. The P.V. Narasimha Rao Expressway would be completed by September 30. Dr Reddy wanted the police posted all along the road to the airport to ensure smooth travel for passengers. He asked the commissioners of Hyderabad and Cyberabad police to ensure that there is no traffic congestion on the route. “This is a very serious issue,” he said.

Dr Reddy sanctioned funds to recruit 1,000 more home guards for Hyderabad and Cyberabad. He discussed the progress of road connectivity. On Road No. 1 Banjara Hills, the GHMC assured that all structures blocking traffic would be removed by the month-end. On widening the road from Sangeet to Tarnaka, GHMC said railway land has to be taken over at the earliest and notices are being sent out.

Widening of Ladikapul-SD Hospital Road cannot be completed by March 16 due to construction of a bridge which will be completed by June 2008, officials said. The GHMC is also racing against time to widen the inner ring road which connects the international airport. It needs to acquire 239 properties for the purpose.

The corporation has taken over 232 properties on these stretches. It has issued notices to government departments on these stretches to handover the land and filed land acquisition with regard to private properties. Mr Dhanunjaya Reddy said the corporation had targeted acquiring all the properties and widening the roads by March 1.
