Farmers agony as lands up for auction
The Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (Huda) will go ahead with the proposed auction of about 164 acres of prime land at Budwel even though local farmers are objecting to the sale, claiming they are the actual owners of the land.
Huda had approved technical bids submitted by three New Delhi-based real estate majors and the firms are now eligible for final bidding. The auction date has not yet been fixed. An integrated township including luxury villas is proposed to be developed at Budwel and the upset price for the auction has been fixed at Rs 4 crore per acre.
About 265 acres of land under survey numbers 282 to 299 in Budwel village was assigned to 66 farmers under Indira Gandhi 20-Point Programme 30 years ago.
But it was by the TDP government in 1997 under the AP Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfer) Act. The Ranga Reddy district administration handed over the land to Huda in 2002 and the latter proposed to develop an integrated township with private participation. Of the land, only 164 acres will be used for the township that is planned close to the Outer Ring Road and the international airport.
Farmers from Budvel met the Huda vice-chairman, Mr Jayesh Ranjan, on Friday and claimed they had obtained a stay from the High Court in 2002 prohibiting any construction on the land. They also demanded that they be paid compensation if the government wanted to take over the land. Mr Ranjan reportedly asked the farmers to approach the Ranga Reddy district administration.
