Metro : More progress made
Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy released the Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd New Year Planner 2008 at his chambers here on Monday.
Showing keen interest to take up this mega prestigious project, the Chief Minister has directed the HMRL authorities to speed up the work.
The HMR officials informed the Chief Minister that the rail survey work had been completed and that peg-marking was continuing on three metro rail corridors in phase I, covering a total of 66.39 km.
A total of 63 metro rail stations have been proposed, one at every one to one-and-a-half kilometre distance. The HMR would be one of the biggest metro rail projects in the world taken up under the private public partnership (PPP) mode.
Managing director NVS Reddy informed the Chief Minister that senior technocrats from Planning Commission and Ministry of Urban Development were going to hold a meeting tomorrow at the HMR office to finalise the technical performance criteria and safety standards.

I am so glad that Hyderabad is getting the Metro Rail, I have traveled in metros rails in Delhi and Singapore and they are an awesome experience and a great way to travel. Fast also.
I am waiting to see how the hyderabad public uses this service. Will they rush up at the entrances like they do to Buses or get in the compartment in an orderly fashion.
Metro Rail is good, but only as good as its users. Combined with the unification of the transport systems like buses and mmts, it will be a great ease on the roads of hyderbad
