Police to enforce lane driving
Traffic police stations have started building a computerized database of habitual traffic offenders. The thrust is to compile a list of motorists who drive on the wrong side, take wrong turns and who violate road medians.
The traffic police wants motorists to follow lane driving to reduce accidents. “All the 18 traffic police stations have been asked to maintain database of habitual offenders. The habitual offenders will be prosecuted,” the additional commissioner of police (traffic), Mr V.S.K. Kaumudi said.
“We want to inculcate lane driving. All traffic police stations are computerised and we want to make use of technology to curb the menace,” Mr Kaumidi said. “Indisciplined driving is responsible for frequent accidents.” He said traffic personnel are asked to discourage pedestrians from crossing roads at places where there are no zebra crossings. “The drive against grievous visible offences like driving without helmet, seat belts, cell phone driving will continue,” Mr Kaumudi said.
