Twin suffers due to red tape
Development work in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has been hit hard by red-tapism among defence authorities. Files relating to projects like road widening, setting up of dispensaries, construction of modern public toilets, development of parks, underground drainage system besides the water supply network improvement project are pending with the defence authorities for several months now.
Files were sent for financial sanctions nearly eight months ago to the defence authorities in Pune general office. Interestingly, the powers that be have neither rejected nor approved the files, stalling development work process in Secunderabad Cantonment limits.
It may be mentioned that the Secunderabad Cantonment Board officials wanted to take up projects which directly impact the citizens such as the Krishna drinking water scheme or establishment of dispensaries in slums for poor to get minimum first aid free of cost. Though the projects were passed at the board meeting, the defence officials in Pune have been sitting on the files. Sources said the defence ministry has come to know about the piling up of files at the Pune office and hoped that things would start moving now.
When contacted, Secunderabad Cantonment Board chief executive officer, Mr V. Prem Chand, confirmed that some of the projects were pending. He said, “In the government sector, it takes time for files and project reports of this volume to be scrutinised and approved for financial sanction.”
“Other development works like centralised street lighting, computerisation of water consumers, tax payers, properties and many others are going on in full swing in Secunderabad Cantonment Board limits,” he said.
